02 - What is “endothelial keratoplasty”?

Our corneas stay hydrated due to an important layer of cells - the corneal endothelium. As we age, our endothelial cell density diminishes. In severe low-density cases, the cornea can become waterlogged and foggy - this is a corneal edema.

In the case of inherited condition Fuch’s Corneal Endothelial Dystrophy, the function of these endothelial cells declines faster than normal. A corneal transplant is required to restore clear vision.

Endothelial keratoplasty refers to a surgical technique for corneal transplantation. In this procedure, a thin layer of donor corneal tissue is transplanted into place without sutures.

03 - Our Solution ✨

We took an abstract, geometric approach towards Fuch’s Corneal Endothelial Dystrophy. The transition of dark to light, and interrupted waves to straight lines represents the restoration of site through endothelial keratoplasty.
